Slit Binding Method with Tyvek

Hi,

I have improved my Slit Binding Method by using Tyvek (found as a large thin plastic-like envelope) as the 'wings'. Here are a few pictures that illustrate how this binding method works.  The pictures and information presented here are for your personal use and can be used in products you sell as long as they are completed physical products.

 A binding mat is made by sandwiching Tyvek between two pieces of cardstock and then making slits that the 'wings' will slide through.

 Tyvek 'wings' are added to the page before it is folded together to make a pocket page.  If it is a single page, you would add the 'wings' to each side and then later you would mat over them.

 Here is what the 'wings' look like after the page is folded up.

 The 'wings' are slid through the slit and adhered to the back side.

I have been adhering my binding mat directly to the spine.  But if you want you could extend the top cardstock to make flaps that would attach to the inside front and back covers before matting.  I have not found that necessary. The binding mat and 'wings' will not give out because of the Tyvek.

This binding method creates very smooth transitions between page and binding mat and the page is very flat.  I have found this a great way to bind a book and I hope you will too.  I feature this binding method in my projects and complete detailed instructions with pictures are included in each tutorial.
